Verify Markings and Certifications

  • Check the stamped markings: Safe, legitimate gas lifts feature clear laser-etched markings indicating the brand and safety class. Prioritize Class 3 or Class 4 ratings; a higher class number generally indicates superior explosion-proof performance.
  • Confirm authoritative certifications: Look for certification marks from organizations such as SGS, TÜV, or BIFMA. Immediately reject products that lack stamped markings, have blurry labels, or feature markings that rub off easily.

Assess Material Quality and Workmanship

  • Check tube wall thickness: High-quality gas lifts are made from premium cold-rolled steel with a wall thickness of over 3mm; they feel heavy and produce a crisp sound when tapped. Inferior products have walls only 1–1.5mm thick, feel lightweight, and produce a dull sound when tapped.
  • Examine visual details: Compliant products feature a uniform, glossy electroplated finish and a tight, seamless seal. Inferior products often have dull, mottled surfaces, rough edges or burrs, and loose or wobbly seals.

Test Operational Performance

  • Test the lifting mechanism: A safe gas lift operates smoothly without sticking or making unusual noises. It should lock precisely at the desired height, without sinking or wobbling after prolonged use.
  • Check the seal integrity: There should be no hissing sounds indicating air leaks during use. Over the long term, the cylinder body should show no signs of rust or oil leakage, ensuring the seal remains intact and safe.
